Sara Mendes, MT-BC

Sara offers in-person sessions on Mondays from 5-8pm and Thursdays from 2:15-4pm.

Sara Mendes grew up in the Cleveland, OH area and relocated to Massachusetts following high school to pursue higher education. She has been practicing as a music therapist since 2005 when she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music. She completed her internship at Musicworx in San Diego, CA under the supervision of Barbara Reuer, PHD, MT-BC. At Musicworx she experienced a full spectrum of music therapy services across several diverse populations including addiction treatment, hospice, early childhood, wellness, and memory care. Sara has spent a significant portion of her career providing music therapy services to the early childhood population, primarily in early intervention with 0-3 year-olds experiencing developmental delays or who may be at risk of developmental delays.

Sara comes from a family of musicians where music and art were always an integral part of daily life. She studied voice and viola as a child and continued to pursue voice as her principal instrument in college. Her passion for music therapy comes from a deep interest in psychology and the profound and complex impact music has on the function of the brain. She recently developed an interest in sensory processing and how music can support self-regulation when combined with principles that embrace a holistic treatment model.

Sara lives in New Hampshire with her husband, 3 kids, and cat (though identifies as more of a “dog person”). She enjoys listening to audiobooks during her many hours in the car and loves dancing as well as live music.
